‘Midnight Meat Train’ to Make (Very) Select Stops This Weekend

July 31, 2008

In a development noted on several horror sites, not the least of which are Shock and BD.com, it appears that Lionsgate is indeed opening the oft-shuffled adaptation of Clive Barker’s The Midnight Meat Train on roughly 100 screens this Friday. However, all currently-posted showtimes are at second-run theaters — otherwise known as dollar theaters, although it never seems to be that cheap anymore, not even on Tuesdays.

In my neck of the woods, one theater has it booked for two evening shows a day, for an engagement that I’m willing to bet will last only one week. The last time I remember a first-run film being shown at this theater, it was the Weinsteins’ Feast, even though that usually neglectful studio did so as part of a clear strategy to boost general awareness of that motion picture before its DVD release a month later (and wouldn’t you know it, that wasn’t a bad flick at all).

John Goodman Heads Back to ‘Pope Joan’ with the Creepy Eden Fletcher

It can be a challenge just to work with people you clash heads with, but imagine going back to work after a big lawsuit? Back in April of 2007, John Goodman started off the Pope Joan plague by backing out of the project and getting sued. Then there were those director kerfuffles, and then star Franka Potente had to back out because the film was taking too damned long to unite. But now at least one drama is righting itself.

Variety reports that the case between Goodman and Constantin films has been settled, and he’s once again starring in the film as Pope Sergius. But that’s not all. David Wenham has also signed on to the film and will play Gerold, “a kind knight who becomes Joan’s greatest love” as she disguises herself as a man and takes the papal throne. Too bad he’s not playing a creepy guy again. He was excellent as Eden Fletcher in The Proposition.

Why Heath Ledger’s Joker Sucked - Sticking To The Source Material

Ledger-Joker-Sucked.jpg“I can’t believe how stupid some people are and how easily they get brain washed by marketing. Why are people saying Heath Ledger’s Joker was so good in The Dark Knight? It totally baffles my mind when obviously Heath Ledger’s Joker was total bullshit. Why did they even bother naming that character “The Joker”? That so called Joker was nothing like the real joker. They should have called him something else like “Scary White Make Up Man” or something along those lines.

First of all, the real Joker is INSANE. Not eccentric, not wild, not misunderstood. He’s certifiably and clinically insane. He’s the paradox to Batman’s order. The so-called-Joker in Dark Knight was totally wrong. He was just eccentric, but also really calm. Yeah he was evil, but he wasn’t insane.

Patton OswaltSo, what’s more evil to you, ultimate fighting or bloggers/commenters?

That’s the question that will be debated tonight at 10:30 pm on the second season opener of Comedy Central’s Root of All Evil. Arguing that ultimate fighting is worse is Andy Daly, while Patton Oswalt argues that blogs and the people who comment on them (cough) are the true evil in this world.
