Freddie Prinze, Jr. in WWE…WTF?

In a move that has me shaking my head, Freddy Prinze, Jr. will be working behind the scenes at World Wrestling Entertainment for both their TV product and pay-per-views. I recognize that wrestling is a large industry and Freddy’s motion picture career hasn’t been exactly stellar as of late (I’m sure he’s done movies, but none I’ve heard of), but wrestling?
“Bringing on board an experienced Hollywood writer, actor and producer like Freddie Prinze Jr. will only increase the level of entertainment to millions of viewers and passionate WWE fans each Monday on USA,” said Chris McCumber, Executive Vice President Marketing Digital and Brand Strategy at USA Network.

When Law & Order: SVU returns on September 23, it’s bringing a trio of guest stars with it. Luke Perry (90210), Sara Gilbert (Roseanne, 24), and Julie Bowen (Ed, Lost) are all set to make appearances. Perry and Bowen play a couple accused of abusing their foster child. Gilbert is on board to play the child’s biological mom.
In addition to the main foster-child abuse storyline, the premiere is going to deal with Benson’s (Mariska Hartigay) attempted rape a the end of last season, as well as Fin’s (Ice-T) possible transfer out of SVU. The premiere also marks the debut of the new ADA played by Michaela McManus (One Tree Hill).

If directing a prequel adaptation to one of the biggest motion picture franchises in the history of film wasn’t enough, Guillermo del Toro has found yet another project to add to his already overfull plate. The Pan’s Labyrinth filmmaker will produce a remake of ABC’s 1973 television movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark for Dimension Films. Del Toro is adapting Nigel McKeand’s cult classic teleplay with his Mimic writing partner Matthew Robbins, and comic book artist-writer Troy Nixey (Batman, Matrix, Trout) will make his feature directorial debut.
Possible Side Effects for Josh Lucas

Josh Lucas has been working in the film and TV industry since 1990, but he first came into my line of vision with 2002’s Sweet Home Alabama, where he traded barbs with Reese Witherspoon. He shot to the top of my list with 2006’s Glory Road, a great film in which he played Don Haskins, the Texas coach who shepherded an all-black team to the NCAA championship.
Now I’ll get to see more of Lucas, because he’s been tapped to star in Possible Side Effects, a Showtime drama pilot written and directed by Tim Robbins.

So, what’s more evil to you, ultimate fighting or bloggers/commenters?
That’s the question that will be debated tonight at 10:30 pm on the second season opener of Comedy Central’s Root of All Evil. Arguing that ultimate fighting is worse is Andy Daly, while Patton Oswalt argues that blogs and the people who comment on them (cough) are the true evil in this world.

Get Ready for ‘G.I. Joe’ vs. ‘The Thing’!

You know how all the horror geeks get extra-nervous when someone starts speaking about a remake of John Carpenter’s The Thing — despite the fact that (as awesome as it is, and boy is it awesome) it itself is a remake! Doesn’t that create some sort of retroactive mega-paradox: That if a REMAKE is that damn good, doesn’t it stand as final proof that remakes ARE good?? In theory, anyway. I’m not speaking about freakin’ Prom Night here.
Anyway, it looks like some loyal monster fans took the job into their own hands, and have thus created their own rendition of The Thing … using only G.I. Joe action figures. It’s really nifty, and the music is pretty cool too.
Fox Enrolling in ‘X-Men: First Class’?

The sharp-eyed crew at SuperheroHype.com spotted an interesting listing in Production Weekly — a listing for X-Men: First Class, which means 20th Century Fox has some kind of young X-Men motion picture in the works. Whether it is based on Jeff Parker’s series of the same name, or if they’re just snagging the title for the oft-discussed Young X-Men spin-off remains to be seen. But Fox already has a domain for it, though at this time it only sends you back to the studio’s website.
It’s certainly odd timing — the time and place to announce a new X-Men motion picture just wrapped up in San Diego. But another X-Men spin-off seems inevitable, particularly with the buzz that’s beginning to build on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And I have a feeling that Star Trek’s fresh-faces reboot will inspire a number of similar origin stories from all corners of nerdland.
