Watch This: ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Teaser
November 14, 2008
brimg hspace=4 height=301 width=450 vspace=4 border=1 align=middle src=http://www.blogcdn.com/www.cinematical.com/media/2008/10/slumdogmaster-(2).jpg alt= /br /br /One of my favorite films of the year so far is Danny Boyle’s a href=http://www.moviefone.com/movie/slumdog-millionaire/31044/mainstrongemSlumdog Millionaire/em/strong/a, and I seriously hope you all pony up some money to seek this one out when it hits theaters because it’s seriously pretty spectacular. And I’m not just talking story here (which is sorta basic and somewhat familiar in terms of the fairytale structure), but the way this film was shot — in Mumbai using Indian faces, most of which were locals and first-time actors — just leaves you breathless and begging for more. The film is beautiful, tragic, funny, poignant and all those words you use to describe a really worthwhile moviegoing experience. The following teaser was put together for the London Film Festival, and it shows you a snippet of the stimulating opening chase sequence, which was shot over a number of days and, as a href=http://weblogs.variety.com/thompsononhollywood/2008/10/teaser-watch-sl.htmlAnne Thompson/a points out, was shot with the camera man running with a hard drive in his backpack, holding the lightweight SI 2K gyro with a camera lens in his hand, which shoots a high-res digital image. Check it out below. br /br /a href=http://www.moviefone.com/movie/slumdog-millionaire/31044/mainstrongemSlumdog Millionaire/em/strong/a hits theaters on November 12.br /br /object width=425 height=344param name=movie value=http://www.youtube.com/v/W9VBofFZPsMamp;hl=enamp;fs=1/paramparam name=allowFullScreen value=true/paramembed src=http://www.youtube.com/v/W9VBofFZPsMamp;hl=enamp;fs=1 type=application/x-shockwave-flash allowfullscreen=true width=425 height=344/embed/objectpFiled under: a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/comedy/ rel=tagComedy/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/drama/ rel=tagDrama/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/fandom/ rel=tagFandom/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/movie-marketing/ rel=tagMovie Marketing/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/trailers-and-clips/ rel=tagTrailers and Clips/a/pp style=clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; /ppa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/27/watch-this-slumdog-millionaire-teaser/ rel=bookmark title=Permanent link to this entryPermalink/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/forward/1354516/ title=Send this entry to a friend via emailEmail this/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/27/watch-this-slumdog-millionaire-teaser/#comments title=View reader comments on this entryComments/a/pdiv class=feedflare a href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=yVlpmimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=yVlpm border=0/img/a a href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=0GYEmimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=0GYEm border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~4/434068624 height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~3/434068624/’Via [cinematical]/abr
Alan Rickman is a Hookah-Smoking Caterpillar?!

Poll: Should ‘WALL-E’ Be Nominated for Best Picture?
November 13, 2008
brimg hspace=4 height=292 width=433 vspace=4 border=1 align=middle alt= src=http://www.blogcdn.com/www.cinematical.com/media/2008/10/wall-ejrreview.jpg /br /br /Will the Oscars slowly turn into The MTV Motion picture Awards by the time we hit, I dunno, 2011? While that might be a stretch, poor ratings and the public’s desire to actually see their favorite films of the year nominated and recognized might just sway Academy voters to begin showing more love toward more commercial flicks. Like, say, a href=http://www.moviefone.com/movie/the-dark-knight/27016/mainemThe Dark Knight/em/a, a href=http://www.moviefone.com/movie/iron-man/24396/mainemIron Man/em/a and a href=http://www.moviefone.com/movie/tropic-thunder/29232/mainemTropic Thunder/em/a — all of which will be receiving an Oscar push in the coming weeks. Also on the agenda, Disney is cooking up a campaign for a href=http://www.moviefone.com/movie/wall-e/28116/mainemWALL-E /em/ain the Best Picture category even though an animated film has never won the Academy’s top award, so states a href=http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/28/movies/28stud.html?ref=artsemThe New York Times/em/a. (Note: It will still be possible for emWALL-E/em to be nominated in the Best Animated Film category as well as Ideal Picture.)br /br /But if there’s ever a year for upsets, 2008 is definitely it. The writer’s strike and struggling economy really injured some potential awards contenders (emThe Road/emem /emand emThe Soloist /ema href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/25/the-weinsteins-bump-all-their-movies-to-2009/were pushed back to 2009/a), and awards buzz on others (emChangeling, Frost/Nixon/em) ain’t exactly all that promising. So, heck, in a year where the Tampa Bay Rays make it to the World Series, I don’t see why emWALL-E/em shouldn’t slip into the Best Picture category. But how do you feel about it? Should the Oscars take a more pop-centric, mass appeal approach going forward? Or should that stuff be reserved for the Teen Choice Awards and MTV Movie Awards? And what about poor old WALL-E? Where does he fit in?br /br /pa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/28/poll-should-wall-e-be-nominated-for-best-picture/#poll21552View Poll/a/ppFiled under: a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/Animation/ rel=tagAnimation/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/awards/ rel=tagAwards/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/fandom/ rel=tagFandom/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/family-films/ rel=tagFamily Films/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/oscar-watch/ rel=tagOscar Watch/a, a href=http://www.cinematical.com/category/polls/ rel=tagPolls/a/pp style=clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; /ppa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/28/poll-should-wall-e-be-nominated-for-best-picture/ rel=bookmark title=Permanent link to this entryPermalink/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/forward/1355015/ title=Send this entry to a friend via emailEmail this/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/28/poll-should-wall-e-be-nominated-for-best-picture/#comments title=View reader comments on this entryComments/a/pdiv class=feedflare a href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=xg9Xmimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=xg9Xm border=0/img/a a href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=V6S8mimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=V6S8m border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~4/434739654 height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~3/434739654/’Via [cinematical]/abr

The Geek Beat: Elisabeth and Scott Discuss ‘The Amazing Hulk’

I was short on funds and friends to go with, and before I knew it, it was gone. I know most of you out there are superior geeks than I, and probably have seen it twice over already. McG to Direct Beyonce in Wonder Woman?

I want to do a superhero movie and what would be superior than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right? br /br /Her one misgiving is the costume which, despite her fantastic figure, she admits is incredibly unforgiving. I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was so fine. She was breathtaking. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it’d be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy.pa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/10/mcg-to-direct-beyonce-in-wonder-woman/ rel=bookmarkContinue reading emMcG to Direct Beyonce in Wonder Woman?/em/a/pp style=clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; /ppa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/10/mcg-to-direct-beyonce-in-wonder-woman/ rel=bookmark title=Permanent link to this entryPermalink/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/forward/1367061/ title=Send this entry to a friend via emailEmail this/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/10/mcg-to-direct-beyonce-in-wonder-woman/#comments title=View reader comments on this entryComments/a/p pa href=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/Mb0rcDsg1xIA_dP8kGoWjT7TNA0/aimg src=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/Mb0rcDsg1xIA_dP8kGoWjT7TNA0/i border=0 ismap=true/img/a/pdiv class=feedflare a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=JJLoFdOVimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=JJLoFdOV border=0/img/a a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=1JYv0mRhimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=1JYv0mRh border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~4/iUcCxKiwQz4 height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~3/iUcCxKiwQz4/’Via [cinematical]/abr
Discuss: Is the World Ready for a Black James Bond?
November 10, 2008

At a Rome press conference for a href=http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0830515/emQuantum of Solace/em/a, which opens in the U.S. on Friday, Craig said, After Barack Obama’s victory I think we might have reached the moment for a [black]* 007. I think the role could easily be played by a black actor, because the character created by Ian Fleming in the ’50s has undergone a great deal of evolution and continues to be updated.br /br /He also joked that the idea of a black 007 might have Fleming spinning in his grave. Fleming was considered by many to be racist — just Google the words emIan Fleming racist/em to find plenty of people making that assertion — and the U.K. Telegraph a href=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3387865/Daniel-Craig-says-next-Bond-could-be-black.htmlobserves/a that his Bond novels were laced with the racial prejudices of his era. br /br /Surely there’s nothing specific about the Bond character that couldn’t just as easily apply to a black actor. There have been a few black Bond Girls romanced by white Bonds. Race doesn’t generally play a part in the stories, at least not in the last several films. Then again, some people freaked out when Daniel Craig was cast solely because he was emblond/em (if you can envision the heresy). Would a complete makeover completely ruin it for the purists? What do you think? And if they did go with a black 007, who should play him? br /br /em*The word he actually used was coloured, which apparently isn’t quite as offensive and outdated in Europe as it is in America, as none of the news outlets covering the press conference expressed surprise over Craig’s usage of it. He obviously didn’t mean it with racist intent, anyway, so let’s not dwell on it, mmkay? /emp style=clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; /ppa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/09/discuss-is-the-world-ready-for-a-black-james-bond/ rel=bookmark title=Permanent link to this entryPermalink/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/forward/1366283/ title=Send this entry to a friend via emailEmail this/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/09/discuss-is-the-world-ready-for-a-black-james-bond/#comments title=View reader comments on this entryComments/a/p pa href=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/kAAG64vshXr5zL8dVHWlo0M0Vfk/aimg src=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/kAAG64vshXr5zL8dVHWlo0M0Vfk/i border=0 ismap=true/img/a/pdiv class=feedflare a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=KtlWBZUmimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=KtlWBZUm border=0/img/a a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=MJkmsKzjimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=MJkmsKzj border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~4/eeiZJrjaRFk height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~3/eeiZJrjaRFk/’Via [cinematical]/abr

There’s all kinds of intriguing little quotes scattered all over the World wide web tonight, and I’ve compiled them all below to give your mouse finger and Google toolbar a rest. Enjoy!br /br /As always, the Old Canuckehead gets first grab — a href=http://xmenfilms.net/blog/?p=1388X-MenFilms.Net/a was informed by Fox that the first a href=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458525/emX-Men Origins: Wolverine/em/a teaser is supposed to be attached to emThe Day the Earth Stood Still/em, which hits theaters on December 12th. I bet we’ll! br /br /Buried in that a href=http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38991Ain’t It Cool News/a scoop on a href=http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0833089/J. Michael Stracynzki /awas the news that he had just completed his rewrite of emThor/em. I think the God of Thunder is moving faster than Captain America. br /br /a href=http://splashpage.mtv.com/2008/11/05/splash-page-exclusive-robert-downey-jr-on-terrence-howarddon-cheadle-iron-man-2-swap/MTV’s Splash Page/a caught up with a href=http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000375/Robert Downey Jr./a and pressed him for word on the a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/14/don-cheadle-to-replace-terrence-howard-in-iron-man-2/Terrance Howard/Don Cheadle swap/a. He stayed classy, of course: I had nothing to do with that decision. I love Terrence very very much. That’s all I’ll state because I haven’t talked to him yet … I’ve always admired Don [Cheadle]. It’s one of those situations where I still don’t quite know what happened or why. Here’s what happens too: things happen and you wind up commenting on them before you’ve actually talked to the people and it’s in poor taste. He also stressed that theem Iron Man/em franchise will be an interactive one, with he and Jon Favreau striving to make sure we don’t piss off the public that put us in the position we’re in.br /br /Continued after the jump.br /br /br /pa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/08/geek-daily-teased-by-wolverine-thor-kick-ass-villains-a/ rel=bookmarkContinue reading emGeek Daily: Teased by ‘Wolverine,’ Thor, ‘Kick-Ass’ Villains, and More/em/a/pp style=clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; /ppa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/08/geek-daily-teased-by-wolverine-thor-kick-ass-villains-a/ rel=bookmark title=Permanent link to this entryPermalink/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/forward/1364814/ title=Send this entry to a friend via emailEmail this/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/08/geek-daily-teased-by-wolverine-thor-kick-ass-villains-a/#comments title=View reader comments on this entryComments/a/p pa href=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/TbJD2E6iHqZucw81M-VELilyLVM/aimg src=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/TbJD2E6iHqZucw81M-VELilyLVM/i border=0 ismap=true/img/a/pdiv class=feedflare a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=1GWox67Qimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=1GWox67Q border=0/img/a a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=FceVMO0Pimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=FceVMO0P border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~4/Ap7JHgZ9KUY height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~3/Ap7JHgZ9KUY/’Via [cinematical]/abr
