Guillermo del Toro Brings Stop-Motion “Pinocchio” to Life
November 17, 2008
brEarlier this week, Blood Disgusting scored the exclusive news that Guillermo del Toro is working on a stop-motion version of Pinnochio together with artist Gris Grimly. He tells Bloody Disgusting:/p blockquotepWe are trying to get a full stop-motion version of Gris Grimly’s PINOCCHIO off the ground, with the Jim Henson Company. The idea came from Gris, and everybody cares about his book about it. The original story is far more perverse and spooky and semi-necrophilia vibe to it in certain aspects. Gris certainly has that vein in him, he wants to do this with that original spookiness in it, we’re trying to get it going./p pThe strongJim Henson Company/strong is the behind it and we are currently working on the screenplay! Its not coming to a screen near you any time soon, even if it were to begin this day it would be about three years in the making, but we’re working to make it happen. A full-scale puppet universe takes time./p/blockquote pFans of Hellboy 2 will remember that the opening sequence featured a stop-motion puppet sequence, so this medium is certainly not new to del Toro. It was a bit jarring to see such a drastic change of style in a Hellboy film, but it served the story well and suited del Toro#8217;s fantastical style. He also hints at a feature-length puppet film of his own coming along, but unfortunately couldn#8217;t say much on the topic./p pI#8217;m a fan of stop-motion animation in general, so it#8217;s great to see del Toro show some love to an arguably dying genre. This also makes me wonder if he#8217;ll ever make the jump to traditional animation as well. A Guillermo del Toro written/directed project produced by an anime company could be pretty fantastic in my view./p pstrongDiscuss: What do you think about Guillermo del Toro#8217;s jump into stop-motion puppetry? Christopher McQuarrie Lands ‘The Champions’ and ‘The Monster of Florence’

He’s moving forward with another producing project on his insanely busy slate — emThe Champions/em, a big screen version of the British TV series of the 60s. a href=http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117995957.html?categoryid=13amp;cs=1amp;nid=2564emVariety/em/a reports that a href=http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0003160/Christopher McQuarrie/a will be penning the script for United Artists, and acting as a producer alongside Del Toro, Tom Cruise, and Paula Wagner. Del Toro optioned the project last November, and seemingly mindful of the anniversary, has brought on McQuarrie. br /br /Frankly, I’m surprised emThe Champions /emhasn’t been grabbed long before now, since everyone is dying to have a franchise of superheroes. The series (which ran for a single year) followed a team of government agents who were rescued from a plane crash in the Himalayas by an advanced civilization. As if rescue wasn’t nice enough, the super civilization gave them superpowers. Yeah, this is totally going to end up a franchise.br /br /Del Toro has apparently found himself a writer as happy to be sans sleep as he’s — McQuarrie is a hot property at UA after emValkyrie/em. In addition to emThe Champions/em, he’ll also be penning and producing a href=http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Florence-Douglas-Preston/dp/0446581194emThe Monster of Florence/em/a. Based on Douglas Preston’s book, it will follow his investigation into the serial killer nicknamed the Monster of Florence, Italy’s version of Jack the Ripper. Preston discovered that one of the murders had been committed on his just-purchased Italian property, and decided to pair up with Italian journalist Mario Spezi to try and solve the case. Their well-meaning investigation ended up embroiled in controversy, arrests, and all kinds of tense insanity that should make for a really enjoyable crime movie — and be simple peasy for the writer of emThe Usual Suspects/em.p style=clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; /ppa href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/17/christopher-mcquarrie-lands-the-champions-and-the-monster-of/ rel=bookmark title=Permanent link to this entryPermalink/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/forward/1374009/ title=Send this entry to a friend via emailEmail this/a | a href=http://www.cinematical.com/2008/11/17/christopher-mcquarrie-lands-the-champions-and-the-monster-of/#comments title=View reader comments on this entryComments/a/p pa href=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/N5G361oTLxgJ7xyq7iwI_s85uOw/aimg src=http://feedads.googleadservices.com/~a/N5G361oTLxgJ7xyq7iwI_s85uOw/i border=0 ismap=true/img/a/pdiv class=feedflare a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=MSNAr1HQimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=MSNAr1HQ border=0/img/a a href=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?a=iuDMTJKximg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~f/weblogsinc/cinematical?i=iuDMTJKx border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~4/tbG9of1twQM height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/weblogsinc/cinematical/~3/tbG9of1twQM/’Via [cinematical]/abr

We get the following news thanks to our friends at a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_ezinetask=readpage=1category=1article=5753IESB:/a/p blockquotepThe Weinstein Company (TWC) have partnered with Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, and their managers Ben Feigin and Josh Klein to produce a concert movie to memorialize the comic duo#8217;s reunion and first tour together in 25 years. The announcement was made this day by Barry Gordon, executive vice president of home entertainment at TWC./p p#8220;The Cheech and Chong Concert Movie#8221; will be an historic, must-experience event for the many fans that grew up listening to their recordings and watching their movies,#8221; stated Barry Gordon, EVP of Home Entertainment at TWC. #8220;For the millions of new fans who have discovered Cheech and Chong over the years as cultural icons, this will be the first time many of them will be able to care about the artistry and one-of-kind magic that is Cheech and Chong live on stage. This is the comedy event of the decade.#8221;/p/blockquote pThe comedy event of the decade will be seeing these two live and in person, but the film will be a quality substitute for those that are unable to get tickets./p pPeople love Cheech and Chong and are pumped to see them back on the stage - I know I am. I grew up renting Cheech and Chong films as a child. I didn#8217;t get half the jokes; but still enjoyed myself immensely. Now that I am old enough to milk the shaft of innuendo, I can wrangle out all of the hidden meanings and enjoy the films on another level./p pI am thankful that TWC has decided to share this tour (for money) so that all might care about it. This may also serve as a permanent record of what might be the last tour from this legendary duo./p pa target=_blank rel=nofollow href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~a/themovieblog/VkTh?a=Aid5g5img src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~a/themovieblog/VkTh?i=Aid5g5 border=0/img/a/pdiv class=feedflare a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/themovieblog/VkTh?a=6RHQNimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/themovieblog/VkTh?i=6RHQN border=0/img/a a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/themovieblog/VkTh?a=bNYYNimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~f/themovieblog/VkTh?i=bNYYN border=0/img/a /divimg src=http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/themovieblog/VkTh/~4/452245167 height=1 width=1/ a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=’http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/themovieblog/VkTh/~3/452245167/cheech-and-chong-concert-film ‘Via [themovieblog]/abr
