Jesse L. Martin to join The Philanthropist?

Wow, is this right? Jesse L. Martin was on Law and Order for nine seasons? How could that be? Where has the last decade gone? I feel really old.
Martin was indeed on the hit NBC drama for that long. He left last season, in a storyline involving a gambling addiction, a murder, and a court trial. But now he might actually be coming back to the same network. Martin is in negotiations to play the James Purefoy’s sidekick on the midseason replacement series The Philanthropist, about a rich man who helps people with his dough. The character’s name is Philip Maidstone.

The genius that was Amy Ryan’s Holly beatboxing on The Office last week got me thinking about other cast additions that have made shows superior.
The first that came to mind was actually another Amy Ryan role — Beadie on season two of The Wire. It took a while for me to get into the whole dockworkers storyline, but it was Beadie that helped me through.

The erstwhile Buffy the Vampire Slayer star is eying a return to the small screen with a half-hour dramedy pilot at HBO, entitled Wonderful Maladys.
According to Variety, the New York-set show will revolve around three adult siblings who lost their parents at a very early age.
Screenwriter Charles Randolph, who wrote the script with Gellar in mind, describes her character as having “a kind of zealous immaturity — like a drug addict with a to-do list.” Sounds just peachy.

Grey’s Anatomy is adding another bi-curious female physician into the Hahn-Torres fray — and it looks like she’ll be played Melissa George. EW’s Michael Ausiello reports that George, ideal known for her role as butt-kicking bad girl on Alias, is in final negotiations to play “an intern with, um, an open mind toward sexuality.”
She’s being positioned as a possible love interest for one of Seattle Grace’s other two female-loving females, Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) or Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith), who first locked lips in last year’s season finale.
