The Marvel movie timeline is getting bigger and bigger with time. After a marvelous ending in the form of Avengers: Endgame for the original Avengers, Marvel has some amazing projects in their bucket list for the future. In the San Diego Comic-Con Festival 2019, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios announced multiple projects that are going to be produced with the passage of time. We’ve got an insight on the dates of some upcoming Marvel projects that are going to be released in the coming years.

Also, after the announcement for Disney’s first online streaming service in the San Diego Comic-Con Festival 2019, Marvel has announced some TV shows that are directly linked to the original Marvel timeline. And Disney has also acquired the rights for X-Men and Fantastic Four so we might see some new characters on the cinema screens in the near future. Disney and Sony also made a deal after a dispute for the rights of Spider-man and Marvel agreed to allow Sony to use Tom Holland as Spider-Man for their future movies. So, we can expect a Spidey vs. Venom showdown too. Now, let’s look at the dates and insights of the upcoming Marvel movies:

Black Widow:

Release Date: May 1, 2020

Director: Cate Shortland

Cast: Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz

Current Status: In Production

After a lot of wait, finally, Marvel has announced the solo Black Widow movie. Fans were expecting a Black Widow movie for a long time and their requests increased after DCEU released Wonder Woman and it got critics’ appreciation too. So, Marvel also jumped on the bandwagon and director Cate Shortland was assigned as a director for this film in July 2018 who has films like Berlin Syndrome and Lore under her name. In San Diego Comic-Con Festival 2019, Kevin Feige revealed the release date of the movie that is May 1, 2020. Keeping in mind that Black Widow is the first female lead to appear in Avengers and Scarlet Witch as the most famous and powerful superhero, but they didn’t get their solo movies for God knows what reasons. But after a massive response from the Ant-Man and the Wasp franchise and after seeing the appreciation for Hope Van Dyne’s character and the solo Captain Marvel movie, Marvel finally took the decision to produce the long-awaited Black Widow movie. Well, late arrival is better than no arrival.

The casting has been finalized and we will see Scarlett Johansson returning for the final time as Natasha Romanoff alongside David Harbour who will play the role of Alexie (Red Guardian) who was created as the soviet equivalent of Captain America. Other cast members include Florence Pugh as Yelena who took the mantle of Black Widow in the comics, O-T Fagbenle will play the role of Mason who is a mercenary, and Rachel Weisz will be playing the character of Melina aka Iron Maiden who is Russian and the enemy of Black Widow in the comics. There has also been a hint of the appearance of Task Master but there is no word about who will be playing the role. It might be Marvel’s strategy to keep it as a secret for a final scene twist. We can only wait for the movie release to get the answers to all our questions.

We might see some interesting character plot or Easter eggs as the name suggests it’s the multiverse. There is not much information about the project as it’s under development. Only Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen are confirmed to play the roles of Dr. Stephen Strange and Scarlet Witch. We might see some other cast members in the future update from Marvel Studios. Unnamed Far From Home Sequel:

Release Date: July 16, 2021

Director: Jon Watts

Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon

Current Status: Developing Stage

We all know about Marvel vs. Sony clashes about the rights of Spider-Man. The Marvel studio wanted a share from standalone movies of our beloved Spidey but Sony was not in a mood to give them any more of the share. So, there was news circulating that Sony might be taking its character back from Marvel and we might not see the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man teaming up with the Avengers and there were chances that Sony was going to reboot the character and it was to be played by a new actor. But things went well and their issue was resolved. After they resolved the issue, the studios announced that they will be keeping Spider-Man in the main Avengers team and the next movie will be released in the year 2021. So fans might see him fighting some really dangerous villains this time as Sony is also making the Venom sequel. And Sony has also announced that they will be using the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man in their next movies. So, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will be writing the screenplay and Jon Watts will be returning to direct the third installment.

Thor: Love and Thunder:

Release Date: November 5, 2021

Director: Taika Waititi

Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson

Current Status: Developing Stage

Marvel is going to break its three movies formula this time. As our God of Thunder is going to get his fourth installment in the form of Thor Love and Thunder. There is not much news about the movie as only the main cast has been announced and director Taika Waititi is returning to take over the reins of the project. Waititi has brilliantly developed the character of Thor after the first two movies that were train wrecks. Chris Hemsworth will be playing the role of mighty Thor and Tessa Thompson will be returning as Valkyrie who is now the new King of Asgard as Thor stepped down from his throne in Avengers: Endgame. But the thing that held fans’ interest is that Natalie Portman is returning as Jane Foster and she will be becoming Lady Thor in this installment like the comics. Now we have to see what Taika Waititi is going to do with the character of Lady Thor. And we all know he never fails to entertain his audience. So we hope this installment is heading in the right direction under his guidance.

The cast is not confirmed yet but we can assume that Chadwick Boseman will be returning as T’Challa aka Black Panther and Letitia Wright as Shuri. We may know more details in the future about the movie from the studio.

Guardians of the Galaxy:

Release Date: Not Announced Yet

Director: James Gunn

Cast: Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff (others not confirmed yet)

Current Status: Not Confirmed

We knew from the start it was going to happen. This movie got enough publicity because of Marvel’s decision of firing James Gunn over some 10 years old tweets he posted on twitter. After he was sacked from this project, he immediately got a call from DCEU to write and direct the sequel of ‘Suicide Squad’.

Right now, we are only aware that first he will shoot the ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel and after that, we might hear anything about GOG Vol. 3. We might also see Thor in the third installment as we saw him boarding the ship with the guardians at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Fans have high hopes for this one. The cast is not confirmed yet as we might or might not see Gamora from the past in this movie.

James Gunn always said that this movie will wrap up the story of the original members of the GOG like Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper). And we still don’t know how they are going to end the characters’ journey.

Blade:

Director: Not Announced Yet

Cast: Mahershala Ali (Others not announced yet)

At the Marvel Comic-Con 2019, Mahershala Ali was introduced as Blade which was a surprise for many fans. X-Men and Fantastic Four:

As these are the main comics of Marvel so fans have their fingers crossed to see what Marvel is going to do with these characters. As they are very disappointed with the previous Fantastic Four movies and the last X-Men movie. So, these franchises are now in safe hands.

Deadpool 3:

Ryan Reynolds posted a picture of him at the Marvel Studios as a joke. He might be hinting at the third installment of Deadpool as it is confirmed that he will play the role of Deadpool in the next film too. So, we might hear about the release date and other things related to this movie soon.
