Aladdin Sequel is confirmed by Disney
Disney’s strategy of playing with people’s nostalgia is going successful. From the Live-Action Jungle Book Remake to Lion King Remake, Disney has earned a lot of money and the public is also accepting the movies without any hassle. People are liking these movies as long as these movies remind them of their childhood. If we say people are paying to satisfy their nostalgia, then it wouldn’t be wrong.
After the success of Live Action remakes like Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Aladdin, Disney is all set to launch the sequel to Aladdin. After Disney’s remakes touched $1 Billion, it has been confirmed that people want more and Disney is going to give them what they want. Sequels.
According to Variety, John Gatins from Power Rangers and Andrea Berloff from The kitchen have been hired to write the original script for Aladdin sequel. The sequel will not continue the story from the animated versions but will have an original screenplay. According to sources, the writers discussed the possible plots for the continuation of the story for six months and are now sure which way they are going to take the story. Guy Ritchie, the director for Aladdin might not come to direct the sequel.
The cast might include Menna Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Will Smith as Genie but it is not sure as the offers will only be sent when the story will be finalized. The other cast in the first movie included Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Alan Tudyk as Iago. Also, the remake will have a theatrical release just like its predecessor. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will be back to produce the movie. Ryan Halprin will be the executive producer.
Aladdin will be the third movie to get a live-action sequel. Before that, Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent got their sequels. It got mixed reviews from the critics but its box-office business of $1 Billion made sure that a sequel is on its way.
This live-action sequel is not the only thing in Disney’s basket, but a spin-off movie on Disney+ is also in development that will focus on Prince Anders, the potential husband of Princess Jasmine who hails from the kingdom of Skånland and will be played by No Time to Die actor Billy Magnussen. The spin-off is also in very early stages like the movie so we might hear some more about it in the future.
The producer for Aladdin Dan Lin, while talking to the media said that a sequel for Aladdin was in their minds for a long time and they were serious about making an original Aladdin story as the animated versions had a different ending compared to the live-action remake. The live-action remake gave all three main characters (Aladdin, Genie, and Jasmine) a different ending so they could not have relied on the animated versions anymore that’s why they decided to bring Berloff and Gatins to pen down an original screenplay for Aladdin Sequel. So fans should now prepare for a thrilling ride as this time it is not going to be the same old movie with a pinch of new technology served in the plate but a proper story that would decide what works, a stale live-action remake or an original screenplay.
