Parasite Total Award Wins at the Oscars 2020:

Bong Joon Ho’s Comedy/Drama/Thriller Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture as the first Foreign Language Film in 2020. This movie truly is a masterpiece. That’s why it not only won the award for Best Picture but also for the Best Director, Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay. In total, the movie won 4 Oscars and it is the first Korean movie to win not one but four Oscars.

The movie was released on June 5, 2019 and got raving reviews from the critics and love from the audience from all over the world. Fans were hoping that the movie would surely win the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film but little did they know that Parasite will also win the Best Picture Award beating all of its rival films produced in Hollywood. The parasite has written history as it is the only International film to win the best picture awards at the Oscars.

The film has a normal start and after getting into the story, the viewer can’t move from his seat. Bong Joon Ho has done a marvelous job by writing an intriguing script that depicts the lives of two families who have a class difference. Ho has successfully showcased the life of a parasite relying on its host by consuming his resources and even harm him to fulfill his needs.

The story starts with Kim’s family sitting in their old basement watching outside their window. The family is facing financial crises and have no jobs to feed themselves. Then, a friend of Ki-woo, the only son of Ki-taek comes to their house and offers Ki-woo to go as a substitute teacher to a wealthy family’s house to teach their daughter English. Ki-woo agrees and goes to the Park family’s house to teach their elder daughter Da-hye. He portrays himself as a university student and introduces himself by the name Kevin.  Mrs. Parks, impressed by his teaching method, offers him a good pay. After that, Ki-woo gets his sister a job in the same house and then all of the Kim family start working there disguising as somebody else. Everything is good until they get to know that the Parks are also like other rich people who think of their workers as inferior beings and Mr. Park is annoyed by the smell of Ki-taek. The story then goes straight from a comedy-drama to a thriller. For the thriller part, you people have to watch the movie as it would be an insult to not watch it. Believe me, it’s worth watching.

After watching the movie, I couldn’t figure out what was the genre of the movie. It revolved around drama, comedy, and thriller. And not all movies can do that without breaking the continuation of the story. Even after all the events happened, the story didn’t leave its flow and this is the beauty of the movie for which ‘Parasite’ deserved the Oscar win.

The contenders for the Best Picture were 1917, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. And all these movies are great and it really was a tough competition to decide the best picture winner among them but Parasite has the edge of a mixed genre and an original screenplay that makes everyone connect to the film even if the language is not English. That’s why it is a well-deserved win for the film and the director.

Will there be a Sequel?

News is circulating that Parasite will have a TV series in English and Mark Ruffalo is in talks to play the lead in the movie but we think the movie itself is enough and we shouldn’t touch the masterpiece as souvenirs are always beautiful in their originality.
